An organisation whose main activity is to provide a broad range of [InterNet] services, usually to the retail market. Common services include [DialUp|DialUpNotes] connections, [ADSL] connections, [WebServer]s hosting their members' [WebSite]s, a [WebProxy], [Email] servers, [NTP] servers, [NNTP] servers, [DNS] servers, [FTP] servers (often mirrors of software archives), games servers, ...

Without getting into nit-picks about ISP/IAP differences thankyouverymuch, here are some local (Waikato and New Zealand) ISPs. Please don't add subjective comments - that's what IspFlames is for. Unless specified otherwise, the ISPs are NZ wide (thanks to the 0867/[IPNet] network).

* Clear Net (now part of [TelstraClear])
* Paradise.net (now part of [TelstraClear])
* Saturn (cable service) (now part of [TelstraClear])

* [Wave Internet|http://www.wave.co.nz] (probably Hamilton's second ISP, still around)
* [WISE Net|http://wise.net.nz] - Also provide wireless services in the Wairarapa
* WorldNet
* [Xtra]
* NetStreamInternet
* [02.Net]

WirelessInternet providers in Hamilton:
* WiredCountry (in Hamilton, provided by [ICONZ]) - uses the !GoLive wireless network? Flat-rate 256kbps for $65/month - see http://www.ezysurf.co.nz/mainframe.html (current as of 11 Feb 2004) or http://www.iconz.co.nz/products/wired-country.html for business connections.
* [Xtra] provide a Wireless JetStream service - http://jetstream.xtra.co.nz/chm/0,,203313-202321,00.html

* MidlandInternetLimited (probably Hamilton's first ISP)

There are also some international [ISP]s of historical note:
* [UUNET], now part of [MCI], was the first ever ISP and still a major provider of wholesale services
* [AOL] was one of the first [ISP]s to mass market InterNet access to the public.
