Modem Specific Notes
General
- TelecomNZ uses a value of 0 for VPI and 100 for VCI. If your modem isn't configured for this, then it won't work yet, but bitstream access may change this. I think most sold in NZ now have this correctly set...
- You have to use PPPoA (which is also known as RFC 2364, and stands for PPP over ATM). PPPoE won't work. --This refers to the protocol that operates from your modem to the ISP. If you have an external modem, you can use PPPoE from the modem to a linux machine, for example. The 3Com HomeConnect works this way
- Log in as username@isp.co.nz through the ADSL network.
- To test an ADSL connection without an ISP, you can always use the username: user@jetstreamgames.co.nz, with any password you would like.
You can find a lot of useful information in the mailing list archives at
http://unixathome.org/adsl/ (it's based in NZ).
