Thanks for stopping by the WaikatoLinuxUsersGroup's web site.

This site is what is known as a WikiWikiWeb (or Wiki for short). Wikis are named after the Hawaaian word for 'quick', wikiwiki. The thing that sets wiki aside from other online content systems is that (with only a few exceptions), anyone can change, edit or add to any page in the Wiki, quickly and simply. For example, if you want to provide a better description of wiki than provided here, click 'Edit' in the bar just above this text, and you will be given a text box to do so.
You'll see a lot of words !MashedTogether? that stand out (often in blue) - these are links to other pages. This is where a Wiki really shines - you can easily create links to relevant pages, and you can also find information quickly and easily using the BackLinks in the side bar to the right of the main page.

This particular Wiki is set up for the WaikatoLinuxUsersGroup. Anyone can create/change a page. You will be asked for a login, which must be a WikiWord - two or more words with capital letters joined together, such as HomePage or PerryLorier. The convention is that you should use your RealName as your login ID (there are no passwords.)

To create a page, all you have to do is refer to it with a WikiWord; for example the text

Create me a !PagePlease

will generate Create me a PagePlease.

See also HowToUseWiki, and AddingPages, for more information. You are encouraged to have a play in the SandBox - a testing page - to see how things work. Remember you can always preview a page before you save it. (YouCanNeverPreviewEnoughTimes!) After you've learnt your way around the Wiki a bit, we highly recommend viewing the RecentChanges (top left of the page) to keep "up to date" on the "latest trends".

There's a small but growing WikiFaq. And remember that ThisIsNotAmerica.

If this is your first time at our site, you might want to move onto NewToLinux next.
