While the WLUG is open to all comers, there's a few sub-groupings within the club that might help to explain some of the culture in the WlugWiki, the WlugMailingList and at meetings.

• There's a lot of students and alumni from WaikatoUniversity
• There's a lot of people involoved with networking, specifically in the WandGroup
• There's a lot of ex users of a BulletinBoardSystem
• There's a few people from NZNOG

• There are a lot of people that don't like MicrosoftWindows (however, see WlugIncorporated -- the role of the WaikatoLinuxUsersGroup is to advocate Linux/OSS, not to be Anti-MicrosoftCorporation)

  • And there are just as many people that do like it - so don't be put off, and sensible Windows help will often be offered to the best of everyone's ability
• HEAPS of people know each other through UnderNet
• Some members like to consume CheapEnergyDrinks like there's no tomorrow

In the most part, the vocal supporters of the WLUG will be under 30, IT professionals or students, but this doesn't mean that if you do not fit that stereotype you shouldn't get involved. We try and follow the CodeOfEthics.
