UCB is an Acronym for University of California, Berkeley.

Most well-known (in computing circles) for the BSD version of Unix, especially since it was there that InternetProtocol sockets and networking were developed. All BSD code says "Copyright yyyy The Regents of the University of California".

Good things Berkeley gave us:

  • TCP/IP (aka Berkeley sockets) and related tools
  • GEOS for the Commodore 64
  • The BSDLicense

Bad things Berkeley gave us:
