Also known as sprong, on UnderNet, but not often these days
I have a long-term goal to actually go to at least one WLUG meeting... so far it's not working out too well
Previously a ComputerScienceMajor at OtagoUniversity, I unfortunately fit many of the stereotypes. Except that I often got up before noon (and even went to 8am lectures at least some of the time. Not fun, and I don't even reccommend it for the novelty value). Oh, and I sometimes go outside, and tend to bike places (Cars are evil :)
In the dim past, I've been a raving MacFanatic, a WindowsUser, but I eventually SawTheLight? (people who know me probably think of this as the oncoming train) around 1997, and have been using various flavours of Linux and BSD since. Transitioned to FreeBSD this year, and haven't looked back.
I've managed to overcome much of my fanatiscism, and now hate everything about computers relatively equally. But I still spend too much time with them.
Presently use the Ruby programming language for pretty much everything, although I admit it's not perfect. Much less annoying than most languages I've used for most things, and it still allows you to cleanly extend it in C when needed.
Have been exposed to heaps of other languages, probably the most fun I've had has been in Ruby, and HyperTalk (part of HyperCard? on the Macintosh). C was enjoyable for a while, but for most things I do it's more effort than it's worth. Much more effort.
Software projects that I use heavily, and should probably take part in the development of include:
Anything large, crusty, slow, or suffering from poor UI design. So pretty much all of it :/
