Sammy describes Plan 9 as "Some crazy Unix system some people made once. I dunno."

Plan 9 from Bell Labs is a distributed OperatingSystem, mostly used for research. It was developed to replace UNIX as the research operating system at BellLabs.

Notable features include:

  • absolutely everything being a file
  • being the father of UTF-8, which was invented for Plan 9
  • the 9P? Distributed FileSystem
