Blackbox is an X11 WindowManager.

  • It is written in C++ and shares no common code with any other WindowManager (even though the graphics implementation is similar to that of WindowMaker).
  • Small code size
  • Fast
  • Simple menus
  • Multiple workspaces
  • Decorated windows
  • Built-in graphics code to render solids, gradients, and bevels on the fly.
  • And a whole heap else, probably.

If you find KDE or GNOME take too much out of your system, try running BlackBox for a bit.

It might be one of the most Forked projects in the history of OpenSource - see FluxBox, OpenBox, Waimea? (some of which where in turn Forked themselves).
