GROTTY !!!GROTTY NAME SYNOPSIS DESCRIPTION OPTIONS FILES BUGS SEE ALSO ---- !!NAME grotty - groff driver for typewriter-like devices !!SYNOPSIS __grotty__ [[ __-hfbuodBUv__ ] [[ __-F__''dir'' ] [[ ''files''... ] It is possible to have whitespace between the __-F__ option and its parameter. !!DESCRIPTION __grotty__ translates the output of GNU __troff__ into a form suitable for typewriter-like devices. Normally __grotty__ should be invoked by using the __groff__ command with a __-Tascii__, __-Tascii8__, __-Tlatin1__, __-Tnippon__ or __-Tutf8__ option on ASCII based systems, and with __-Tcp1047__ on EBCDIC based hosts. If no files are given, __grotty__ will read the standard input. A filename of __-__ will also cause __grotty__ to read the standard input. Output is written to the standard output. Normally __grotty__ prints a bold character ''c'' using the sequence `''c'' BACKSPACE ''c''' and a italic character ''c'' by the sequence `_____ BACKSPACE ''c'''. These sequences can be displayed on a terminal by piping through ul(1). Pagers such as more(1) or less(1) are also able to display these sequences. Use either __-B__ or __-U__ when piping into less(1); use __-b__ when piping into more(1). There is no need to filter the output through col(1) since __grotty__ never outputs reverse line feeds. The font description file may contain a command __internalname__ ''n'' where ''n'' is a decimal integer. If the 01 bit in ''n'' is set, then the font will be treated as an italic font; if the 02 bit is set, then it will be treated as a bold font. The code field in the font description field gives the code which will be used to output the character. This code can also be used in the __N__ escape sequence in __troff__. !!OPTIONS __-F__''dir'' Prepend directory ''dir''__/dev__''name'' to the search path for font and device description files; ''name'' is the name of the device, usually __ascii__, __ascii8__, __latin1__, __utf8__, __nippon__ or __cp1047__. __-h__ Use horizontal tabs in the output. Tabs are assumed to be set every 8 columns. __-f__ Use form feeds in the output. A form feed will be output at the end of each page that has no output on its last line. __-b__ Suppress the use of overstriking for bold characters. __-u__ Suppress the use of underlining for italic characters. __-B__ Use only overstriking for bold-italic characters. __-U__ Use only underlining for bold-italic characters. __-o__ Suppress overstriking (other than for bold or underlined characters). __-d__ Ignore all __D__ commands. Without this __grotty__ will render __D'l...'__ commands that have at least at least one zero argument (and so are either horizontal or vertical) using __-__, __|__ and __+__ characters. __-v__ Print the version number. !!FILES __/usr/share/groff/1.17.2/font/devascii/DESC__ Device description file for __ascii__ device. __/usr/share/groff/1.17.2/font/devascii/__''F'' Font description file for font ''F'' of __ascii__ device. __/usr/share/groff/1.17.2/font/devascii8/DESC__ Device description file for __ascii8__ device. __/usr/share/groff/1.17.2/font/devlatin1/DESC__ Device description file for __latin1__ device. __/usr/share/groff/1.17.2/font/devnippon/DESC__ Device description file for __nippon__ device. __/usr/share/groff/1.17.2/font/devlatin1/__''F'' Font description file for font ''F'' of __latin1__ device. __/usr/share/groff/1.17.2/font/devutf8/DESC__ Device description file for __utf8__ device. __/usr/share/groff/1.17.2/font/devutf8/__''F'' Font description file for font ''F'' of __utf8__ device. __/usr/share/groff/1.17.2/font/devcp1047/DESC__ Device description file for __cp1047__ device. __/usr/share/groff/1.17.2/font/devcp1047/__''F'' Font description file for font ''F'' of __cp1047__ device. __/usr/share/groff/1.17.2/tmac/tty.tmac__ Macros for use with __grotty__. __/usr/share/groff/1.17.2/tmac/tty-char.tmac__ Additional klugdey character definitions for use with __grotty__. Note that on EBCDIC hosts, only files for the __cp1047__ device will be installed. !!BUGS __grotty__ is intended only for simple documents. There is no support for fractional horizontal or vertical motions. There is no support for __D__ commands other than horizontal and vertical lines. Characters above the first line (ie with a vertical position of 0) cannot be printed. !!SEE ALSO groff(1), troff(1), groff_out(5), groff_font(5), __groff_char__(7), ul(1), more(1), less(1) ----
