[SURBL|http://www.surbl.org/] stands for [Spam] [URI] __R__ealtime __B__lock__l__ists. Most realtime blocklists try and block the email addresses that spammers send from. As spammers can generate (or fake) a unique email address with each message, this isn't a very good defence. SURBL blocks the [URI]s they point to inside the body of the email, and as such can have a much higher success rate. [SURBL] is supported natively by SpamAssassin 3.0 and can be supported by MicrosoftExchange using [Open Relay Filter | http://martijnjongen.com/Default.aspx?tabid=27].
