Intermezzo was started by a former developer of Coda as a simpler implementation of the same goals: an advanced scalable NetworkFileSystem that supports DisconnectedOperation. It was meant to perform as well as a local FileSystem and run over well-established Protocols such as HTTP.

It did reach version 1.x, but wasn't anywhere near production quality yet, and was abandoned in 2002 in favour of Lustre.
