Gateway are a large (but have been getting smaller in terms of market share) US PC company who used to have a presence in NewZealand after buying PCDirect?.
Unfortunately after paying tens of millions of dollars for PCDirect? they pulled out of NewZealand and closed the operation down. The blame can not be solely put on them now as the original owners of PCDirect? sold out to investment bankers from memory who used it as an exercise to extract more cash out rather than invest in the business.
