Asterisk, not to be confused with the PABX software of the same name, are an Auckland company specialising in "bringing the power and choice of Linux and Open Source to New Zealand businesses".

They were New Zealand's first commercial Linux and Open Source IT practice, and "deliver Linux system integration and support, develop outstanding Linux-based products and provides consultancy at every level on Linux and Open Source in the enterprise".

Since the big Buy-Out of 2004, Asterisk is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gen-i, which means they're owned by Telecom.

Asterisk are probably one of the two biggest commercial OSS companies in NZ, besides Wellington's Catalyst IT. They regularly sponsor AuckLUG events and should think about coming to visit WLUG more often.
