AspergerSyndrome is a high functioning form of Autism.
That means that you can probably live most of your life not in an institution or at home, and you could well have an above average IQ (when measured by conventional means).
AspergerSyndrome affects people in many ways but some of the typical symptoms are:
- Delayed physical/social development and general bad coordination
- Difficulty with social interaction due to not understanding the rules
- Repetitive/obsessive behaviours and routines
- Lack of understanding of other peoples feelings when compared to how other people understand (some say Aspies have no feelings but that is far from true)
In NewZealand you can get free diagnosis by going to a doctor (which you must pay for) who will refer you to a relevant qualified person.
