play !!!play NAME SYNOPSIS DESCRIPTION OPTIONS SEE ALSO AUTHOR ---- !!NAME play - play any sound file to audio device rec - record audio to any sound file format !!SYNOPSIS __play__ ''[[fopts] infile [[effect]'' __rec__ ''[[fopts] outfile [[effect]'' !!DESCRIPTION This manual page briefly documents the __play and rec__ commands. __play__ and __rec__ are programs that allow you to play and record different types of sound files from the command line. They are front ends to the more general __sox(1)__ package. Normally, the play command will automatically detect the type and other parameters of the soundfile. If it can't do so, the parameters can be changed through options. The play command can be used for playing pack several files, in this case the options regarding the format apply to every file played. !!OPTIONS A summary of common options are included below. For a complete description of options and their values, see the __sox(1)__ man page. __--silent__ Don't print to file currently played to stdout __-c [[channels], --channels=[[channels]__ Define the number of channels in the file. __-d [[device], --device=[[device]__ Specify a different device to play the sound file to. __-f [[format], --format=[[format]__ Specify bit format of the sample. One of s, u, U, A, a, or g. __-r [[rate], --rate=[[rate]__ Specify the sample rate of the audio data (samples per second). __-s [[size], --size=[[size]__ Specify the width of each sample. One of b, w, l, f, d, or D. __-t [[type], --type=[[type]__ Specify audio file format to use. Useful if it can not be automatically determined. __-v [[volume], --volume=[[volume]__ Change the audio volume __-x , --xinu__ Reverse the byte order of the sample (only works with 16 and 32-bit data). __-h, --help__ Show summary of options. __--version__ Show version of play/rec.
