!!DESCRIPTION |
14 |
15 |
16 |
PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is an extensible file format |
17 |
for the lossless, portable, well-compressed storage of |
18 |
raster images. PNG provides a patent-free replacement for |
19 |
GIF and can also replace many common uses of TIFF. |
20 |
Indexed-color, grayscale, and truecolor images are |
21 |
supported, plus an optional alpha channel. Sample depths |
22 |
range from 1 to 16 bits. |
23 |
24 |
25 |
PNG is designed to work well in online viewing applications, |
26 |
such as the World Wide Web, so it is fully streamable with a |
27 |
progressive display option. PNG is robust, providing both |
28 |
full file integrity checking and fast, simple detection of |
29 |
common transmission errors. Also, PNG can store gamma and |
30 |
chromaticity data for improved color matching on |
31 |
heterogeneous platforms. |
