The __nroff__ script emulates the __nroff__ command
using groff. Only __ascii__, __ascii8__,
__latin1__, __utf8__, __nippon__, and __cp1047__
are valid arguments for the __-T__ option. If an invalid
or no __-T__ option is given, __nroff__ checks the
current locale to select a default output device. It first
tries the __locale__ program, then the environment
variables __LC_ALL__, __LC_CTYPE__, and __LANG__,
and finally the __LESSCHARSET__ environment
variable.


The __-h__ option is equivalent to the __grotty__'s
__-h__ option (i.e., using tabs in the output). The
__-i__, __-n__, __-m__, __-o__ and __-r__
options have the effect described in troff(1). In
addition, __nroff__ silently ignores the options
__-e__, __-q__, and __-s__ (which are not
implemented in __troff__). Options __-p__ (pic),
__-t__ (tbl), __-S__ (safer), and __-U__ (unsafe)
are passed to __groff__. __-S__ is passed by default.
__-v__ shows the version number.

__GROFF_BIN_PATH__


A colon separated list of directories in which to search for
the __groff__ executable before searching in PATH. If
unset, `/usr/bin' is used.

This shell script is basically intended for use with
man(1), so warnings are suppressed. nroff-style
character definitions (in the file tty-char.tmac) are also
loaded to emulate unrepresentable glyphs.
