NAME
gwavr - record a GSM compressed wave audio file

SYNOPSYS
       gwavr [ -f filename ] [ -r samplerate ] [ -d sampledepth ]
       [ -c numchans ] [-s l | m | c ]

DESCRIPTION
gwavr will record a PCM encoded WAV file from /dev/dsp
then compress the data with the GSM algorithm leaving the
file as small as 1/10th its usual size. The sample format,
length and source of the recording can all be supplied at
the command line. If a mixer program is running, it can be
used to set the recording source and volume levels of that
source. Without arguments, gwavr will output its usage.

OPTIONS
       -f filename
Uses filename as the name of the recorded wave
file. The default is untitled.wav which will be
used if -f is not given.

       -r samplerate
Asks for samplerate to be used as the number of
samples per second to be recorded. Common values
              are 44100, 22050, 11025, 8000. The default value
              is 8000.

       -d sampledepth
Uses sampledepth as the number of bits to use for
each sample. Valid values are 16 and 8.

       -c numchans
Uses numchans channels in recording. Valid values
are 2 for a stereo recording, and 1 for a mono
              recording.

       -l length
Records for length seconds then stops. This is not
a required option. You may simply ^C the program
              and it will exit gracefully.

       -s m|l|c
Sets the mixer to the appropriate recording source.
              l=line,  m=mic  and c=cdrom.  If a mixer is already
running, it can be used to specify recording source
              and volume levels.
