SMARTD(D) SMARTD(D) NAME smartd - S.M.A.R.T. Daemon SYNOPSIS smartd [-X] DESCRIPTION smartd is a daemon that monitors the Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology System(S.M.A.R.T.) built into ATA-3 and later IDE and SCSI-3 Hard Drives. This is used to check the reliability of the hard drive and pre- dict drive failures. smartd is daemon designed to notify users of S.M.A.R.T. errors via SYSLOG interface. OPTIONS smartd accepts single agrument. The options begin with a '-'. The daemon scans for all ATA devices using the form "/dev/hd*" and SCSI devices using the form "/dev/sd*" that support S.M.A.R.T. and have S.M.A.R.T. enabled. It polls these devices every 30 minutes checking for S.M.A.R.T. errors.
