!!DESCRIPTION |

20 |
The exim_dbmbuild program reads an input file in the format |
21 |
of an alias file (see chapter 20) and writes a DBM database |
22 |
using the lower-cased alias names as keys and the remainder |
23 |
of the information as data. Two arguments are required: the |
24 |
name of the input file (which can be a single hyphen to |
25 |
indicate the standard input), and the base name of the |
26 |
output database. For example: |
27 |
28 |
29 |
exim_dbmbuild /etc/aliases /etc/aliases |
30 |
31 |
32 |
reads the system alias file and creates a DBM database using |
33 |
/etc/aliases as the base name. In systems that use the ndbm |
34 |
routines, the database consists of two files called (in this |
35 |
case) /etc/aliases.dir and /etc/aliases.pag, while in |
36 |
systems using the ndbm interface to the db routines a single |
37 |
file called /etc/aliases.db is used. If the native db |
38 |
interface is in use (USE_DB is set in a compile-time |
39 |
configuration file) then a single file with no added prefix |
40 |
is used. In this case the two file names on the command line |
41 |
must be different. The utility in fact creates the database |
42 |
under a temporary name, and then renames the |
43 |
file(s). |
