Acronym for Virtual Private Server

An OperatingSystem (often Linux or Solaris) set up to appear to be a server when it's actaully a VirtualMachine, a useful tool for ISPs and other 3rd party server providers. RimuHosting runs Linux VPS's

The Kernel RandomNumberGenerator (/dev/random) should not be trusted on a VPS, because while it thinks it's looking at real network timing information, the underlying OperatingSystem also has full access to the same information.
