+The original [MessageBoard]s or " forums" of the InterNet, made up of millions of [NewsGroup]s and transported using the [NNTP] protocol. You use a NewsReader to browse it and post messages

-Archived by GoogleGroups , who used to be !DejaNews. [Binaries|http://www .usenetbinaries .com] are now becoming a big part of the Usenet
+There is an extensive archive , originally by !DejaNews (who no longer exist) and now known as GoogleGroups . A large "dark half" of UseNet is comprised of (often illegal) binary traffic (the hierarchy is mainly under __alt .binaries__, and let's just say __erotica__ features highly in the lists) . Messages containing file( fragment)s are [MIME] encoded and most news servers don't carry them

-If you're in Linux, use MozillaMail, [Pan|http://pan.rebelbase.com/] ([GNOME]) or [Knode|http://knode.sourceforge.net/] ([KDE]) to read newsgroups in XFree86; or [tin|http://www.tin.org/] or [slrn|http://www.slrn.org/] to read them in console mode.

-Linux, being a newer thing (Usenet was one of the first things on the Internet in the early 1980s, full of [VAX] and [UNIX] questions) tends to be best supported in [MailingLists| MailingList]; however if you have MicrosoftWindows queries, you'll get better answers from UseNet (specifically MicrosoftCorporation's ' private' newsgroups) 9 times out of 10.
