An [Acronym] for __U__niversal __R__esource __N__ame. A URN is a type of [URI] The idea with a URN is that a document has a unique name, for instance "rfc777", and you look up "rfc777" and it goes and fetches it from the "best" location (or, in fact, any location, but best is preferable).
