It was created by Larry Ewing in [TheGIMP], because LinusTorvalds likes [Penguin]s. (After discussions on the <tt>linux-kernel</tt> MailingList, and an initial suggestion by AlanCox.)  Linux.org quotes [comments from Linus | http://www.linux.org/info/penguin.html] about how the [Penguin] was appropriate.

Woodsoup.org has gathered [an exhaustive history of Tux|http://www.woodsoup.org/projs/tux_aqfh/doc/]. The [Google] directory has [a lot of information about Tux | http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Software/Operating_Systems/Linux/Tux/].

There is also a cool game called [Tux Racer|http://www.tuxracer.com/], where you guide a [Penguin] down a hill. It used to be [Free], but is now [Proprietary] and commercial. However, see [OpenRacer | http://moria.seul.org:8080/wf/dev/systems/OpenRacer/].
