SymbolicManipulation was one of the earliest attempts at ArtificialIntelligence. The technique involved hiding completely the fact that computers used numbers and do all computations on symbols that in represented abstract concepts. LISP uses SymbolicManipulation and C programmers use SymbolicManipulation whenever they do "#define Pi? 3.141592"
