An Acronym for Secure Hash Algorithm 1, one out of a family of CryptographicHash Algorithms.
It is apparently similar to the MD4 family of hashes, although generally considered more secure. It is newer and has fewer theoretical attack vectors than MD5, but is also 
showing signs of weakness.
