Acronym for Silicon Graphics Inc
SGI are well known for their really nifty machines with very pretty graphics. Much of this has eroded of late now that Intel machines have got stupidly advanced graphics cards.
SGI have also donated their file system (XFS) to the OpenSource community and have nice patches for Linux for this. Hopefully they should be merged soon?
