RedHatLinux done with [Debian]'s community model. Designed to put RedHatLinux into the hands of the community, where RedHat can take it and build RedHatEnterpriseLinux off it. (The reason why you won't see boxed editions of RedHatLinux greater than '9' [[and indeed, the reason why it's 9, and not 9.0.]) Launched in mid 2003, after discusson with other community groups, it was pulled and relaunched in late 2003 as the FedoraProject.
