Ten years old read history, Red Hat are the company that took Linux from being a hobbyist tool to a trusted commercial operating system. However, instead of being nasty people, they've given back almost everything they've done to the community.

rpm(8) is the RPM Package Manager, but the first 'r' used to stand for Red Hat. (A good source for up to date RPM files is http://www.freshrpms.net (also has a how-to on using apt with RPM)

They offer a certification (RedHatCertifiedEngineer) and lots and lots of corporate support.
