On a [UNIX] or [Linux] system, a process is the container structure the [Kernel] builds for an application to run in. Resourses such as [CPU] time, [FileHandle]s, network [Port]s and many others are allocated at the [Process] level. Contrast [Thread]. See ProcessNotes for information on getting process statistics and information, and ProcessRelationships for an overview of the ways that different processes can be related to one another.
