The fundamental unit of organisation in the OpenSource community.

A collection of individuals, usually coordinated by a MailingList or WebSite and usually focused on SourceCode but sometimes on an interface or documentation. An OpenSourceProject has vision, which may or may not be explicitly stated. If conflicts arise over the vision of a project it may Fork, large OpenSourceProjects may also have subprojects (for example the Apache OpenSourceProject has many subprojects). OpenSourceProjects are often indistinguishable from the product of their colloration.

Most OpenSourceProjects aim to be:

  1. StandardsCompliant
  2. Secure
  3. TechnicallyElligant?
  4. Robust
  5. ...
  6. Efficient
  7. EasyToUse?

OpenSourceProjects include Apache, JBoss, MySQL, SSH, OpenSSH, GPG, Minix, Linux and GCC.
