An Acronym for Network Address Translation
NAT is an evil thing that changes IP's as they travel through a gateway. This is often used in the special case of "Masquading" where multiple machines "masquarade" as one IP address, since you have several machines trying to use one internet connection and the ISP only gave you one IP address.
