As a commercial enterprise their main sources of income have historically been selling software, principally through the [OEM] market. Microsoft code is not released under the [GPL] and the details of the contracts with [OEM] clients are usually supressed.
Historically they have also sold [UNIX] in the form of [Xenix], but all references to this have been wiped from their [WebSite].
