An Acronym for Media Gateway Control Protocol, defined in 
RFC:2705.
It is used extensively within the Cisco Call Manager for communications between VoIP gateways, in Cisco Call Manager clusters, or with other call agents. Working with MGCP greatly reduces the device configuration work compared to H.323.
