KHTML is the HTML rendering component developed by the KDE project. KHTML is a very featureful implementation of HTML, JavaScript, CSS and related standards. It's a lot lighter than Gecko and was therefore chosen by AppleCorporation to be the basis of WebKit, the Safari WebBrowser's rendering engine.
