Indemnification is a form of insurance, usually a provision in a contract, that protects a party from financial loss. In the Linux, world, commercial vendors such as RedHat and Novell provide indemnification to their commercial customers, so that if SCO succeeds in any of its claim against the Linux kernel, then the commercial vendors will pay the costs owing by their clients.
