A hodge podge unit system grown from traditions and historical conventions. Magnitudes of units are defined by multitudes of ratios, often odd ones. Contrast MetricSystem. Though the ImperialSystem may be second nature to someone grown up with it, to someone used to the MetricSystem its inconsistency can be staggering. Even its most devout advocates will rarely deny this.
