Acronym for Internet Cache Protocol; a protocol used to exchange hints about the existence of URLs in neighbouring caches. Caches exchange ICP queries and replies to gather information to use in selecting the most appropriate location from which to retrieve an object.

ICPv2 is defined in RFC:2186 and RFC:2187. See the ICP website for more details.

Implemented by most proxy servers, including Squid.
