First of all most of our copies are very poorly adapted to wiki markup, to the point of rendering them completely useless. Even if that were resolved, they're still bound to go out of synch with the originals, either because they get outdated as the principal version of the HOWTO is updated or due to editing on the wiki. And in any case, even if that weren't a concern, it doesn't make much sense to put HOWTOs in a wiki as the two concepts have completely contrary strengths. Wiki thrives on synergy of pages, while a HOWTO aims to be a conclusive cookbook. It would be too much work to fix up all our local copies -- for no gain at all. TLDP works well enough as a central HOWTO repository. Personally, I vote for ridding the wiki of the HOWTO copies. --AristotlePagaltzis''
