Toy computers that were around in the 1980s. Most of these had BASIC on ROM, used television sets as monitors and tape recorders as storage devices. You could either plug it into the TV and type this
10 PRINT "NOW WHAT?" 20 GOTO 10

or load a game off a tape. The Commodore 64 the ZX Spectrum were common examples of these. The Apple II was a little fancier in that it had a proper (though limited) monitor and a floppy disk drive. The PC began life as IBM's overpriced attempt at a home computer.
