Some 'cutesy' things built into web servers for people to be able to do things like have forms and counters on their web pages. They are built into Microsoft's Front Page software, and the extensions are available for [Apache] for Unix. Real designers don't want to know. The Front Page Extensions are installed by hosting providers who want to make money off schmucks. Use a [DataBase] and some clue. And go see [Apache].
