Enlightenment is a completely themeable, highly configurable WindowManager for TheXWindowingSystem, traditionally used in Unix environments. It is currently up to release 0.16-ish, commonly refered to as E16, while a mayor rewrite is underway (and has been underway for years) for Enlightenment 0.17 (E17) which is planned to become a full desktop environment.

The story is a bit more complicated than that. They almost put DR17 to public usage once but Raster thought that to release code that should be rewriten in a week or so wasn't the right way (some people think that he, as Mandrake are too perfectionist, don't know if is spelled this way). Well... You can see some results of his decision in the DR17 Enlightenment page. I suggest watching the movies, as static pictures don't show the potential of this desktop.
