A programers' text editor and [IDE]. See emacs(1). Its icon is a kitchen sink, and there's very good reason for that. It is extensible with its [Elisp] scripting language, and almost everything you could ever need (including a complete WebBrowser) has been written in ELisp. Emacs is an editor pretending to be an OperatingSystem. [Unix] programmers tend to settle on either Emacs or vi(1) as their main programming environment, then pick on each other for their choices. ''Mandatory quote:'' ;: ''"[Emacs] is a nice operating system - it just lacks a good editor."'' ''--[Aristotle|AristotlePagaltzis] "[Vim] is awesome" [Pagaltzis|AristotlePagaltzis]''
