Centralised [Authentication] against a DomainController. Lets you do all your user administration on a single machine, and regardless of which machine people sit at in a group of machines, they can log into it, authenticating against the domain server (or one of them, in the case of [replicated|Replication] servers.) This is a MicrosoftCorporation-ism; the UnixWay is using [NIS] or [LDAP].
