Acronym for Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer.

A piece of equipment housed at the exchange (or increasingly commonly in a roadside cabinet) that decodes the DSL signals and converts them to some other protocol. Roughly the Telco version of a DSL modem. Typically deals with 10s, 100s or 1000s of customers at once.

Usually converts PPPoA over DSL to PPPoA over SDH, or from PPPoE over DSL to PPPoE over Ethernet.
