[Acronym] for __D__igital __S__ubscriber __L__ine __A__ccess __M__ultiplexer. A piece of equipment housed at the exchange (or increasingly commonly in a roadside cabinet) that decodes the DSL signals and converts them to some other protocol. Roughly the Telco version of a DSL modem. Typically deals with 10s, 100s or 1000s of customers at once. Usually converts [PPPoA] over DSL to [PPPoA] over SDH, or from [PPPoE] over DSL to [PPPoE] over Ethernet.
