[Acronym] for __D__istributed __C__omponent __O__bject __M__odel, an extension of the __C__omponent __O__bject __M__odel ([COM]) to support objects distributed across a network. [DCOM] was developed by MicrosoftCorporation and has been submitted to the [IETF] as a draft standard. So far, thank goodness, it has not been ratified! :) Since 1996, it has been part of MicrosoftWindows. [DCOM] is an implementation of [CORBA]. Unlike [CORBA], which runs on many [OS]es, DCOM is currently implemented only for MicrosoftWindows.
