Created C++ from C, initially as a set of Templates to do ObjectOrientedProgramming? which evolved to become more and more sophisticated until it was a completely seperate language, with a seperate standard and Compiler. BjarneStroustrup has been very careful to never endorse a particular Compiler, but gives a list of them on his home page at:
